In 2017, Matt was my T.A. and I asked him to document our field study, American Ecosystems, which headed out West to 20 national parks in 28 days. The result was nothing short of spectacular and many of his images led me to realize the beauty of connecting protected areas in the American West.
Matt Paul Christiansen graduated in 2017 with a bachelor of science in environmental science and an emphasis in conservation biology with high honors. Following graduation he interned with the National Park Service and the Student Conservation Association as one of their summer naturalists and environmental interpreters at Denali National Park. Previously he worked at Monongahela National Forest’s trail crew and participated in citizen science research with the Hemlock Restoration Initiative in Montreat, NC.
Pairing his love of science and communication, Matt is now working in the Capitol as a production manager with CoCreate Studios. He works in both print and digital, and still and video imagery. He continues to share tantalizing images of a life well lived outside on his Mountain Explorer Instagram account and has been featured on Backpacker Magazine online.
