Over the past twenty two years I have had the pleasure of working with Dr. Brad Daniel and Dr. Brad Faircloth of 2nd Nature TREC, a training, research, education, and consulting firm on a variety of teaching and research projects.
Dr. Brad Daniel has been a college professor, wilderness trip leader, and field science instructor for over 30 years. He holds a PhD in environmental studies from Antioch University and three masters degrees: MLA in Art and Science from UNCA, a MS in Outdoor Teacher Education from Northern Illinois University and a MA in Biology/Ecology from Appalachian State University. Brad has been honored with a variety of awards including: Frank Lupton Service Award, Wilderness Education Association (2017), Melva Fager Okun Award for Lifetime Achievement in Environmental Education by Environmental Educators of North Carolina (2016), and Professor of the Decade (2001-2010) by the Montreat College Alumni Association. His research focuses on significant/formative life experiences, wilderness learning, experiential education, and environmental education. His passion is using outdoor experiences to engage the heart, challenge the mind, and nurture the spirit. Brad is currently working the Wilderness Education Association on new training modules for wilderness educators and on documenting significant life experiences with Outward Bound.
Dr. Brad Faircloth has been a college professor, parent educator, and researcher for over 20 years. He holds a PhD and MA in Developmental Psychology from the University of Notre Dame. He is the recipient of the Kaneb Center Teaching Award: Psychology Methods at Notre Dame and was a Post Doctoral Fellow in their psychology department for three years. He was honored with the David L. Parks Distinguished Professor Award at Montreat College in 2017. His passion is supporting others to achieve their personal learning goals and believe in strengths-based approaches to working with people. Brad’s research focus is on marital conflict, parent education, and the physiological effects of outdoor experiences. Currently, he is working on a variety of research projects with 2nd Nature TREC and Outward Bound.
